Adding a deck to your home
Decks act as an extension of your home allowing you to enjoy the nicer weather New England has to offer. If you grew up in this area, family meals, cookouts and even late nights are known to be had on the decks of homes. If you are considering adding a deck to your home, odds are you have a few questions. Between building material to appropriate sizing, REI has the professional expertise to steer you in the right direction. First, let’s look at some deck material options that are on the market today!
Options in the market
Pressure treated– One of the most common options used by homeowners today. Pressure treated wood does offer some durability but with harsh winters and warm summers, these don’t have the longest shelf life. Expect to make some repairs along the way to specific pieces as time moves on.
Natural Woods– These include the likes of Cedar or Redwood. Generally, a little more expensive and these woods naturally have components within them making them resistant -to a point- to weather and bugs. Again, with New England’s wide range of weather extremes, it’s not exactly the best option for homes in this area.
Composite– The option we like to recommend to our clients. Manufacturers have come a long way in mimicking the touch, feel, and look of natural wood in the form of a composite material. These are significantly much more resistant to the elements then the options listed above. In addition to being the most resistant and having a great look, they are much cheaper than traditional lumber.
Boardwalk Composite Decking
We have experimented with a variety of brands, types, and manufacturers regarding composite decking options. Through using several products on the market, we have been most satisfied with the results of Boardwalk Composite. Resistant to fire and warp, Boardwalk composite also boasts a 10-year guarantee. Boardwalk provides the look of wood without any of the hassles real wood can have.
